The winery is right off the freeway though it was a longish drive for us from Santa Rosa. They have made changes that are ridiculous and now have rude staff.įor a family of 4, with 2 people interested in wine tasting and 2 interested in movie memorabilia, this was a no-brainer. This was our favorite winery when we visited 5 years ago. Really? No one is there and a person couldn't rest for 2 seconds? Other reviewers have said the same thing about the rudeness of staff around the pool. One member of our party temporarily sat on a chaise lounge to rest her bad knee while others were taking pictures and was immediately reprimanded about needing to pay for use. It was late in October so it was chilly and no one was using the pool. To add to the negative experience, we stepped outside to enjoy the view of the pool. We were out of luck and completely disappointed. We couldn't change to the terrace because reservations were needed, but it is our understanding we would not have been able to taste several wines out there either. The bar server refused to allow us to taste those wines or any others we had an interest in paying for. We hoped to do the same this trip and carry them home. From our previous visit, we knew we wanted to taste the winery exclusive wine. We are very familiar with the Coppola wines we can buy at our home grocery store. ![]() Not anticipating the change or having it explained ruined our experience. When we came five years ago, this was not the case. You need to buy a bottle and hope you like it. ![]() If you want to try a wine not on either tasting menu, tough luck. The terrace tasting additionally includes some wines that are exclusive to the winery. The bar tasting only serves the widely distributed wines you can find at most grocery stores. What they don't specifically tell you is that the wines they make available to taste at each location are different AND that you cannot try ANY other wines produced by the winery if not on either of those two tasting menus. The website lists two different tasting experiences, one on the terrace for $40 and one at the bar for $25. There are more than enough wineries in the Lodi area per se that can make a day excursion with friends to make repeat visits to the northern end of San Joaquin County doable with a different option each time. Altogether, San Joaquin County has nearly 90 wineries with the vast majority in the Lodi area. Wines & Roses in Lodi is a comparably affordable getaway with elegant rooms, top-notch space, fine food and wines plus it is next door to the Lodi Wine & Visitor Center. What San Joaquin County doesn’t share with the Napa Valley is a reputation as a tourist Mecca with $300 spa treatments and $250 mud baths and top-tier dining although Ernie’s Fine Dining and Spirits in Manteca is impressive enough it draws clientele from San Francisco while Lodi’s wineries can hold their own for wine tasting. ![]()
